I think I've been dehydrated since birth. Seriously, I never drank enough water. I'd wake up with cracked and chapped lips and a vague feeling that I was going to die of thirst but still never drank any water. Think my body was trying to tell me something? Even throughout the day, nothing. Maybe a soda here and there during a meal but I never sipped anything if I didn't have to.
Water is so beneficial to the body. The body is made up of 60% water so drinking some more helps maintain fluid balance which promotes good digestion, regulation of body temperature, and the transportation of nutrients in the body. It's also supposed to help clear up skin, which I'm a big fan of, by flushing out toxins in the body. I've also had a lot of tummy troubles recently so anything that claims it will help my poor stomach- I'm in.
I've been on a mission recently to force myself to drink water. Two items have really been helping me out. One is My Water Balance App and the other is my Lilly Pulitzer x Starbucks S'Well water bottle. Can I be any more basic, I think not.
The My Water Balance app is free on the App store for Apple users. You can buy the upgraded one but I'm on a tight grad student budget and the free features fit all my needs. Basically, you can set it up to determine how much water you want to drink a day. I have mine set to the minimum of 40 oz a day. You can toggle it lower or greater than just 40 oz but I thought I'd challenge myself. The app sends you notifications throughout the day basically yelling at you to drink water and will leave a little red push notification on the app. I HATE those little red notifications. To make them go away I have to drink some amount of water to get that notification to go away. You can adjust the amount of water you drink ranging from 1oz to 50 oz. The free feature also allows you to input coffee or tea throughout the day.
Now, maybe I bought into the Lilly Pulitzer x Starbucks hype ( haters gonna hate), but this S'Well water bottle is seriously awesome. I'd even use a non-Lilly one! The container keeps my water nice and cold for a seriously long time. I hate drinking warm water, it tastes weird to me. Another awesome feature is the bottle doesn't spill or leak in my purse or backpack. This was a major downside to my previous water bottles. It's hard to drink enough water when half of it leaks out in your backpack. Now, I got my hands on my Lilly water bottle when they were in stores on February 15, however they will be available on the Starbucks website starting tomorrow February 28. Lilly Pulitzer not your thing? No worries, if you like the S'Well bottles, they come in a wide range of colors and patterns to fit your style.
So far, I've been doing really well in making my 40 oz of water a day. I fill up my water bottle and will also have tea or sparkling water throughout the day to keep me hydrated.
